Search by categories: updates

Hey xHamster Family!

As you may have already noticed, recently we’ve updated xHamster search by categories.

We aimed at improving our search engine and cleaning up xHamster interface to increase the performance.

Thus, we have excluded the categories list and improved the category search, which is now running simply by entering a word in the search box.

⠀
Say, you’re into anal BBW amateur stuff. From now on, your search will be done within the chosen categories – in this case, within these three - anal, BBW, amateur.

We’d love to hear back from you regarding this feature. Are you using any categories while searching?

If you do, how do you use them? Has the search for your kink got any better?

This is beyond retarded....no search engine works this way...I'm convinced xhamster has to being shady stuff to get their good content because their developers and team are dumb

On premium, you cant search in a category at all right now wtf im supposed to look thru 20k videos in each category i guess

Change the search function, it is terrible now. Too many categories and not great/relevant searches. I’m going to other sites now more than ever

Is this why the homepage no longer shows the newest videos, but instead is "best"? I see the same videos on the homepage over and over. Not a good change!

honest question: why did y'all think this would be better and would you guys ever consider reverting to the old system again? it adds things that I wasn't looking for at all and makes it much harder to find only the content that I'm interested in.

New system is garbage and I fucking hate it. Being able to filter by catagory was one of the things I loved most about this site compared to others, this makes things MUCH HARDER NOT EASIER YOU MORONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

σε xmaaaad : you don't get it. He is not saying about searching Amateur gif categorie. He is talking about searching ONLY in Amateur gif category. That's why this new update sucks, it's a big downgrade to XH platform.
The excelent search engine was the main reason people love this website, now people are turning into other websites

The new search engine is SHIT.
Specific tags are the main reason I chose Xhamster over other porn websites.

σε heartyharry : That’s my problem with the “update” too. They took a system that worked very well and created a useful search capability....and got rid of it. And then XH ppl have tried to explain why/how the update is better...when it *clearly* isn’t. This blog post & the one they put up a month ago or so when they announced the change are FULL of people saying how bad it is/how they want the old system/etc....but XH don’t seem to understand. I sent emails to XH support saying as much....and they apparently are so removed from how their site actually, practically functions , they had no idea what I was talking about. I mentioned the older blog post about ppl not liking the change and the only reply I got was “which blog post, can you link it”......absurd. They couldn’t even look thru the 3 or 4 most recent blog posts since the change (the one specifically talking about the search changes) to even pretend to attempt to address the issue.

How can I search posts? Searching sites I may find some stuff of xham that I never found searching xham itself... why?

This doesn't work. Because now you get a lot of anal that's not BBW or amateur, you get a lot of BBW that's not anal or amateur and you get a lot of amateur, that's not anal or BBW. How do you think that's better than before?! Before those changes I did 3 searches, one for anal BBW in the amateur category,.... etc..and I had exactly what I was looking for. Oh and it doesn't work. I did a search for lesbian psychiatrist, sorted by relevance. Guess what: The first half of the first page had more cocks in it than tits. The second half was lesbian, but no psychiatrist anywhere. So yeah. Great update...

σε lemur3 : Yup, search might as well not exist now if you're using more than one keyword. I just boggles my mind that they deleted the one feature that made xHamster stand out under the guise of "cleaning up the interface". I'm sure the new search is more performant on the backend, but when it's one of the main selling points of the site I'd argue it's worth it. This is such a dumb and incredibly short-sighted change. How does xHamster plan to stay competitive against Mindgeek sites when sites like PH have both more content, *and* better search functionality to find said content? Hint: if your users can't find the content they're looking for it might as well not exist on your site. Just... ??‍♂️

This is so much worse than before and makes it really hard to find specific content now. Before you could do "AND" searches by specifying the category. For example, if I search for "blonde amateur" now I'll get results for "blonde", "amateur" and "amateur" + "blonde". Before you could get very specific search results by filtering to the "amateur" category and search for the text "blonde". Now you get a ton of results that you're not interested in. Not all results will be amateur AND blonde. In fact most will not. Especially when you search by date (newest). The old search was the main reason I used xHamster over competitors. It was very easy to find very specific content. Now it's even worse than PH... Very disappointing. I'll probably have to look elsewhere now. You could've at least added advanced search operators similar to search engines (ie the ability to force AND searches like "amateur & blonde").

I believe Netflix influences changes like this, all across the web, hoping THEIR supposed intelligent search and suggest-engine will better revenues. But trust me, Netflix WILL NOT survive going about as they've done. I already cancelled my subscription, on the grounds that it was impossible to search freely without their code suggesting something totally wrong and out of the blue!

Frustrated being here, since the changes were inplemented, I have found myself going through my favorites in order to find similar videos to find what I like. Thus; I also spend considerably more time on other streaming porn sites, wich I guess many of you guys do also. Sad.

This search function change degrades xhamster to the level of most streaming porn sites, except for maybe motherless and the search engine nudevista, both rendering somewhat exact matches to which words you actually type in the searchbox (including the ability to choose lenght, quality etc).
